Find Out About Beijing Bicycle
Beijing Bicycle is a 2001 Chinese drama film by Sixth Generation Chinese director Wang Xiaoshuai, with joint investment from the Taiwanese Arc Light Films and the French Pyramide Productions. The film stars first-time actors Cui Lin and Li Bin, supported by the already established actresses Zhou Xun and Gao Yuanyuan. It premiered at the Berlin International Film Festival on 17 February 2001 and won the Jury Grand Prix, but was subsequently banned in Mainland China. The ban was eventually lifted

Beijing Bicycle, on the other hand, can serve as an instructional manual for any high-school bully wannabes on how to reduce the stammering geek next door to a shell of a man. It's therefore understandable that the movie can be very difficult to watch at moments.

Beijing Bicycle is the Chinese version of the Italian film Bicycle Thief, and with this in mind the audience should not be disappointed. The story is about two teenagers who live in Beijing. One of the teenagers has just arrived from the countryside and the other has lived in the city his whole life.

Beijing Bicycle is a subtle, beautifully made film and a seemingly good-natured social commentary on contemporary Beijing. Unfortunately, it's pretty boring.

The film Beijing Bicycle is an illuminating account of the effects that some of the Chinese people were exposed to and encountered as China, without hesitation, ventured down a path to fuse capitalism and socialism after 1978.

The public bicycles in Beijing serve as a good supplement to mass transit such as city buses and subways. About 86,000 public bicycles at the docking stations can be rented by Beijing Transportation Smart Card, while 2.35 million dockless sharing bikes are available through mobile apps, facilitating transfers to every corner of the city. Riding a bicycle in Beijing is flexible and efficient, especially during rush hours when the subways are getting overloaded and the road traffic is congested.

To American audiences, Beijing Bicycle may seem like a lot of pointless fights and hand-wringing over a common and easily-replaceable object. To understand the deeper meaning of the bicycle, viewers need to understand that in China, ownership of a bicycle is (or at least was) a sign of prosperity and resourcefulness and is a key mode of transportation.
